Update 2.6 causes starting problem

after update to 2.6 emclient doesn’t start. Cannot access settings.xml. after sending report, emclient tries to restart, but fails again. I solved problem by re-install with version 2.5. But after update to 2.6 same problem. How to solve this?

What problem exactly do you receive?
You can also try patched version>

I installed the patched version, but got same problem: no start up, only possibility to send error report. The only way to be able to use emclient again now, is reinstall version 2.5.
I copied the report, see below:

They’ve posted a new build about an hour ago - 2.6.7065 - which seems to fix a lot of bugs.

Hi, the error message says that eM Client does not have access rights to file C:\Documents and Settings\Anneke en Jan\Application Data\eM Client\settings.xml, which is strange, because it is a application folder for eM Client. Try to delete (backup first) this file (in fact eM Client will run just fine without it) or take a look on access rights for this file. Do you use some antivirus or harddisk data crypring utility or something like that?

Thanks for suggestions.

I did following:

de-install emclient 2.5
remove “settings.xml”
download and install emclient 2.6.6075

Results:
emclient started up, and I saw 2 seconds the new layout, but than emclient crashed
(I sent error-report to emclient-support, but I forgot to look into the report).
Second start up began with database check.
And… stopped and reported error in mail_index.dat
Third start up began with database check again and reported again error in mail_index.dat

Then I de-installed 2.6 and re-installed 2.5 (the reliable version)
Emclient 2.5 started up and check the databased AND said: OK
Emclient 2.5 finished starting up, BUT… a second later…did not accepted newer version of database. L

Then I de-installed 2.5 and re-installed 2.6.6075
But check database reported again error in mail_index.dat

With Norton Undelete I checked deleted files and found many mail_index.dat-fix.
I undeleted an older version of this file, but no better result.

So, total result:

2.6.6075 crashed
database (mail index) corrupt
old reliable version 2.5 cannot use newer version of database
Now, I cannot use any emclient version. My problem is bigger, now!
(I can use my back-up data files – lucky my, but unfortunately few days old -, but that will not be the best solution for me, because emclient will crash again and I would like to get back the most recent database)
What solution does emclient recommend?
Can I change back the version of database to 2.5?

Looking forward to find a solution, because I like to continue using emclient. But version 2.6 seems a very unstable version.

A few suggestions:

Check the permissions on the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Anneke en Jan\Application Data\eM Client, and try re-applying them - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421 for a guide.
Try the release build 2.6.7067

I forgot to tell, that I already changed the directory from “hidden” into “not hidden”. Maybe that’s one of the reasons that emclient started up. (But unfortunately crashed later)

How can I get the newest release?

And how to solve my database problem?
