Unable to send IMAP email from main account

Today I am unable to send email from my main account via IMAP. Thunderbird for the same account works fine. I have changed nothing for the SMTP server in eMClient.

I have reverted back to using Thunderbird for my mail app for now.

Could possibly be a resident background program interfering with sending mail, or could be your smtp server settings might possibly be incorrect, or you might have an attachment to large to send.

So if you don’t have an attachment larger than what your smtp server allows and even basic text only emails fail to send, then if you have any eg: optionally installed antivirus programs or optionally installed firewall / security programs or vpns installed “other than what comes default with your OS”, then try completely disabling those to test.

If you have no optionally installed programs like the above or you do but disabling them makes no difference and rebooting your computer hasn’t made any differance, then go to “Menu / Accounts” and click your account SMTP tab and update in this thread what your “Server address, Server port & Security policy” is so we can dbl-check if there is any obvious errors in your sending mail settings.

Also click the dropdown on the right of Refresh and click “Show Operations” and click the “Log” tab and look for any obvious sending errors and paste the errors in this thread, and we might then be able to see why it wont send. Blank out anything personal in the sending errors.

Also update what version of eM Client you have, an if you have Windows or Mac & OS version

Windows11 using eMClient 10.4.5326. Issue was that in eMClient the SMTP server setting was set to STARTTLS the same as when I migrated the account over from Thunderbird 6 months ago and which Thunderbird still had set to STARTTLS. When I changed this setting to STARTTLS If Available the send issue disappeared.

Strange that Thunderbird was having no issue and I was glad I still had Thunderbird installed so that I could send email out of this account until I had time to work on fixing eMClient.

For V10.3 or later

If you are using SMTP port 587 you set to Use STARTTLS (Always).

Or

If you are using SMTP Port 465 then you set to Use TLS on Special Port

“If you are using SMTP port 587 you set to Use STARTTLS (Always).”

That is the problem. I had been using STARTTLS(Always) for the last 6 months and today eMClient had issues sending email via 587 with that setting. Thunderbird had the same setting and it had no issue. eMClient repeatedly refused to send outgoing mail even after I shut down eMClient and started it back up.

Only when I changed the setting did the problem go away.
