Unable to send since yesterday, 3 Jan. Messages sit in the Outbox but don’t transmit.
Verified with internet email provider that things are working OK at their end.
Updated to Version 8.1.979 (65fd04a) but no change. Log attached.

Typically when you can receive but not send, this is because of your anti-virus/firewall application.
Disable it completely, and then try again.
If that solves the issue, you will need to configure the anti-virus/firewall application before you enable it again.

I tried disabling both the virus protection and the firewall but no change, still cannot send.
Any other suggestions?
What anti-virus application are you using?
Something else you can check: Go to Menu > Accounts and then click on the SMTP tab. Make sure that the port is set to 587 and the security policy is Force usage of SSL/TLS.
