Hi, I am replacing my old computer and want to transfer eM Client to a new one, keeping all my contacts and past emails. I know I have to back up eM Client and copy the database from C:\Users%current user%\AppData\Roaming\eM Client and put it on the new computer. However the old computer has the current user name as Paul and in the new computer in the eM Client file the user is named admin. I am unsure where to paste the file from the old backup and how to get eM Client on the new computer to reconise it.
I also not sure where to past the backup on the new computer.
The best way is to backup on the old computer, and restore on the new computer. When you begin the restore on the new computer, it will ask you for the location of the backup file, so if it is on a USB or network drive, just navigate to that directory.
But if you want to copy the files manually, copy from
C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Roaming\eM Client on the old computer to
C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\eM Client on the new computer
You don’t have to do both because they do the same thing - so either backup/restore or copy the directory.
Used your suggestion to do a backup and restore of eM Client Pro 6 , but I had to copy the backup to a USB Flash drive and then copy it into the eM Client Pro 6 folder you show for a manual transfer on my new computer to get it to restore. eM Cleint Pro 6 on the new machine did not offer me a choice to select the location of the backup file - it had a directory it thought it should be in and that was the only place it would look for it. However, once I placed it in that folder the restore action went perfectly. Now I have all my email accounts, folders and saved messages, as before.
Also, I had purchased the upgrade to eM Client Pro 7 some time ago, but since I was going to build my new computer, didn’t want to risk everything getting messed up on one machine by installing it - some folks were having problems with version 7 and I didn’t want to be one of them. My fear was unfounded, as I went ahead after getting everything restored, and did the Pro 7 upgrade on my new computer. It ran flawlessly.
I’m very happy and appreciate your help very much! Thanks!!
