There is much to love about eM Client, and yet one little thing makes it unusable for me:

No, this can’t be true!  Go to extra/ settings, E-Mail and enter the seconds. It works.

Thank you. It appears to have something to do with whether or not I have my Outlook.com client open at the same time.

is your account set up with IMAP protocol? If so, eM Client will synchronize to your server.
It is quite common that users leave the same account set as POP on any other device/different program.
POP protocol marks new messages as read after is downloads them and eM Client would later synchronize to this change.
Do you have this mail account set up on any other device?

Thank you. I have my account set up on Outlook.com, however, POP is disabled, and I use IMAP. Unfortunately I still get the same result.

I figured it out. An email app at the server was marking messages read. Thank you for your help!

While I’m at it…different topic…is there anyway to subscribe (sync) to my Outlook.com calendar from within emClient?

if you set up your Outlook account as Exchange you will be able to synchronize the Contacts and Calendar as well.
