I have emclient on my iphone and windows laptop
I am increasingly finding the situation that when I open the app, the refsh circle just sits there often for 10s of minutes at a time - and I know I have new email waiting.
Its a GMAIL IMAP account
Sometimes the new email appears … sometimes I close the app becuase nothing seems to be happening (other than the spinning refresh circle)
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do to try to resolve this please
On the IOS devices I have even gone as far as deleting the app and all the data and then doing a re-install from scrath. Updating the 10GB of mail took a very long time … days in fact

First check you are running the latest iOS ver 10.5.430 via the App Store.
Also when first you open the iOS app “do you always see the orange bar” going across the screen as in the example below ? which usually tells you its synchronizing.
Also when you press “Menu / Settings / Show Operations”, do you see synchronising folder like the below Gmail All Mail folder ? If you see that how long does it stay on that ?
Also press “Menu / Settings” and open your Gmail account. Then at the bottom press / open “IMAP” under Services, and see if you have the same Server / Host address. Port & Security policy as per the below screenshots.
Then see if you have “Sync Options” enabled where you can customize to download options for eg: Message List Only, Full Messages without attachments or Full Messages with attachments and “Enable smart optimization for faster downloads” enabled as in the below Gmail account IMAP example second screenshot. You can also change the Message “Sync Time period” at the very bottom to make it sync quicker from eg: 1day anytime up to 1 year instead of All Time.

As far as eM Client for desktop goes, if you have the latest V10, check you have the Gmail Server / Host Address, Port & Security Policy as per below screenshot.
You can speed up message downloading and syncing etc if you dont already have that by going to “Menu / Accounts” and click your Gmail account “IMAP tab” and under “Sync Options” you can adjust the message sync time period and download scope like the mobile app to make it quicker.
