When ‘Global Folders’ is closed. not showing any other folders, why not give the number of messages in the ‘Inbox Folder’ for all accounts as you do for just the ‘Inbox’ of the ‘Global Folders’ and the other Accounts? Then if we have all of them closed to just the titles we can see if there are any messages that have arrived. This can also be done for each account that way we know which account has mail.

I am not sure if I understood you correctly, but if you want to show number of messaged near the collapsed folders, I am afraid it is impossible.
