startup password required

A friend has accidentally enabled “password protected startup” and has no idea what the password is. Is there any way round this or had he truly messed up?!

Yes, there is a way, but you will lose some of the settings.

With eM Client closed, delete all of the following files in the  C:\Users_yourusername_\AppData\Roaming\eM Client folder. You may have to enable hidden items in Windows Explorer to get there.

settings.dat-bak
settings.dat-wal
settings.dat-shm

When you restart eM Client, depending on how the email accounts are setup, you may have to re-enter those passwords, but all the data should be there.

Thanks very much I’ll pass this on.

Unfortunately that didn’t work. It replaces the deleted files but retains the password protected start up.

eM Client needs to be closed for that to work. Close the application, then make sure there are not any eM Client tasks still running in the Task Manager.

Ok thanks, I’ll tell them to try again.

Ok, this time it worked - how strange! Thanks for the help.

Hi Gary,

Thanks! It worked for me but I did notice that I had to re-create my Calendar entries.
