Setting gmail download options for archived mail

How do I stop all of my gmail ‘server side’ mail being downloaded to my computer? I only want to download perhaps the last 30 days worth of mail?

Hello,

IMAP will always download only headers by default (you can turn on offline download) so what you see are not emails but only links to emails on Google’s server.

POP3 will always download all emails and if not set opposite then delete them from server.

There is no other option to download emails only from “time to time”, desktop email client would loose sense after this.

you can used the recent command to get the last 30 days emails. Replace ‘user…@gmail.com’ in your POP client settings with ‘recent:…@gmail.com

oh, yes. recent command works for this too.
