hi im getting a server authentication error and am being prompted to enter a pass word which i do not know

Two things you could try:

Use the full username, including the @whichever.com.

If you don’t know the password, you can usually reset it through your provider’s website.
I think the crediential are all correct, Gary. I think it’s Yahoo having some pain again but the message doesn’t clarify which server. There are a total of 7 users on 5 servers, most of them with the same user name.
I see, so you have rjraibley@ 5 different domains. A useful tip is to always use the full address as the username, then it would be more obvious from the password pop-up which one it is.
It should be specified in the error log, though, so look there.
Yes, it is a mistake (or shortcoming) nearly 20 years in the making.
Yep, I think I found the error log and it’s apparently Yahoo. I think Yahoo has a special hatred for T-bird, and T-bird crashes when those errors occur. That’s what brought me to you folks and that’s why I’m moving off Yahoo.
