Request for Screen Reader Support

Hello! I’m a recent transfer from Postbox and this client looks incredibly powerful/flexible! However, I’m having some trouble.

I’m totally blind, and use a screen reader–something that announces everything on the screen as it’s interacted with–to use my device. Whether by accident or design, PostBox was a wonderful experience to use with this software. EmClient looks as if it could be that way as well–most of the buttons and controls are labeled, so they already announce correctly. However, I run into real trouble in the menus, specifically the one called up by hitting the alt key and the one you get when you hit shift f10 on a message, what I’m fairly certain would be a right click if using a mouse. Sometimes, the menu options will read, but this behavior is not consistent and so I am often finding myself arrowing over the options several times before I can ascertain where my cursor is.

I also can’t seem to get into the settings for notifications, beyond turning them off and on completely. It looks like there are per-notification and even per-account settings for these, because I can see the combo box that contains the list of them, but settings options themselves remain inaccessible on this granular level.

I’m wondering if this is something the developers might be willing to address, as I know I’m not the only one looking for a new email home in the wake of PostBox’s merge and this client is sooo close to being usable already. I’d happily answer any questions!

Thank you!

Hello, thank you for this feedback!
We already try our best to make sure eM Client is accessible, we try to follow guidelines provided by NVAccess and eM Client is tested with system screenreaders and NVDA, and we have recently been able to obtain licenses to test with JAWS as well.

Knowing your system version and which screenreader app you use is crucial in troubleshooting screenreading issues, so please send us these details to [email protected] so we can replicate and look into the reported issues.

Thank you!
