My hard drive crashed and I can’t boot into Windows. I can access the partition using Linux. What files do I need to copy in order to preserve by e-mail history. Also, can I export those files into another e-mail client (I may move to Linux permanently, so won’t be able to use eM Client).
Thanks
Hi Jim,
In eM Client is the folder specified in which all data is saved.
tools > settings > general > storage

As you can see, I’m saving my data on my D: drive, in case my C: drive crashes, and I want to re-install Windows.
The default folder for the data files, however, is C:\users<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\eM Client.

You should copy all those files to a new location.
Regarding exporting the eM Client data (e-mails, appointments, contacts):
1) Start eM Client (in your case you will have to start it on another computer)
2) go to file > export and select what you would like to export.
Hi Jim, as Hans suggested you need to copy your eM Client database folder which by default can be found in your local folder > App Data > Roaming, copy the eM Client folder and move it onto your new hard drive or computer. Next time you open the application, your database should load automatically from your database.
However please note that during computer/hard drive crash some of the data may have gotten corrupt and may no longer be readable for the application, and without database backup created by the application you may no longer be able to restore the database, but that’s just a worst case scenario.
Hope this helps,
Paul.
