Recover old emails

I reinstalled Emclient and lost old emails. How do I recover ?

If you have been making regular eM Client backups from within the program menu, then click “Menu / File / Restore” (Pc) or “File / Restore” (Mac) and a list of dated backups will appear for you to restore your emails etc. The eM Client backup.zip files are by default in your “Documents / eM Client” folder.

However if you have not been making regular eM Client backups, and you have a eg: IMAP / Exchange / Office 365 or iCloud (Non POP) type account, then just go to “Menu / Accounts” and click “Add account” at the top to re-add your account and your emails will then automatically come back from the server.

Now If you have a POP account and don’t have any eM Client backups, then “if you have been making regular backups of your computer user profile”, you can then copy your eM Client hidden database folder back to your current computer user profile which will then bring back all your emails etc.

To do that, first “enable hidden folders” in your file manager, and then “copy the complete contents” of the eM Client hidden folder “from your user profile on your backup drive”.

“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”

Then “install the same or later version of eM Client” and “skip the initial setup”, and then close eM Client once the program opens. You can get all the versions of eM Client via the release history page.

Next go to the newly installed eM Client hidden database folder as advised above on your Windows C or Mac HD harddisk and “delete the contents completely”. Then paste the contents of your backed up eM Client hidden user profile database folder into the Windows C or Mac HD new hidden eM Client database folder.

Lastly open eM Client and it will then be exactly the same as it was before.
