Problem filtering (locating) contact for new email

My client is creating a new email, and clicks on the address To button to access his list of contacts.
He enters the name of the person in the Filter box, but the client does not appear. Checking shows that the name entered does actually match both the Full Name and File As fields.
It appears that the filter only works against the email address field - if, for example, I enter ‘gmail’ in the filter contact field, all contacts with [email protected] are listed.
I can see no option anywhere that will allow modification of this feature - is this something planned for the future, please?
