pop3 and smtp revert to "Don't use secure connection"

New to eM Client and have been pulling my hair out trying to get SMTP settings to work.
Setting SMTP to “Use SSL/TLS if available” results in diagnostics fixing the connection (it says). After closing account window and reopening, the program reset both pop3 and SMTP to “Don’t use secure connection”. Receive still works but send does not.
Program has assigned port 25 to SMTP. and 110 to pop3. With program defaults I receive email but can’t send. Have diagnostic logs but don’t know where to find them to send to you.
I have found that if I set both pop3 and SMTP to “Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)” that send and receive both work, but settings revert to non working settings after restarting program.
Use SSL/TLS on specialty port assigns port 465 to SMTP and port 995 to POP3.
Love the looks of the program, but looks mean nothing if I can’t get reliable send function.
Looking for help, really want the program to work.

Hi Richard, what version of eM Client are you currently using on your computer, can you please check for the exact version number in Help > About?
What mail service are you using with eM Client?
