Old "update" file downloading

I constantly get a note that new version is available (current 6.0.23181.0, available 6.0.23421.0).
But after downloading and installing the old version remains.
I checked the msi file in windows temp folder and it was 6.0.23181.0 !
I assume the update file link leads to old msi file.

Pls fix this!

Hi Timur,
if you download this file > http://www.emclient.com/dist/v6.0.234… does it behave the same way?
If your program keeps reverting to the old version, try uninstalling it (but keep your database) and THEN install the new msi file. Your database with all your settings and accounts should be linked back automatically.

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

Yep, it behaves the same way after uninstalling-reinsalling. The msi from the link you provided has exactly the same size as the old msi file.

Probably, someone needs to check if latest distribution is indeed “latest”.

Hi Timur,
I assure you the installation file is that for the newest version. Your current version just refuses to install from it.
Please download the 6.0.23181 installer here (old one) http://www.emclient.com/dist/v6.0.231… and try installing from it. It should prompt you that you already have this version and ask you what you want to do instead. Choose to uninstall through this installer.
Then install again from the 6.0.23421.0 I provided above.

Olivia

Dear Olivia,

I don’t have a PC with “original” program at hand, but I’ve just downloaded and installed the msi from your first post on other one with a completely fresh OS. It is still 6.0.23181…

Then I downloaded link from your last post. I didn’t installed it, simply checked the file size. It is identical, only creation date is different. I’m not a big computer expert, but I assume that the probability of two different distros having the same size is quite low, isn’t it?

Timur,
for an update file distributed by the same company that have the roughly same number of fixes, compiled using the same program, the files are quiet often the same size, because the space for new information in that file will be similarly allocated. The probability is not low at all.
I downloaded both files, from the same links I sent you above and yes, they are the same size, but each of them installed the correct version for me. Please trust me that the file contains the correct update.
The bug could be saved in your database and not letting eM Client update from the new installer. Please do try uninstalling eM Client with the old installer and then installing anew.

Olivia

Then this is some kind of magic I don’t understand. I took both installers to a third pc that also didn’t have any EMClient installed. The “23421” installer (which I installed first) again showed 23181 in “about” window. Uninstalling and installing using installer didn’t change anything.

Ok, here is another proof that I’m not crazy. I compared the MD5 and SHA checksum of files. They are identical. That kind of probablity is very low.

ece58ddc92ec94e07a0832cc7cfef0ed *setup2.msi

More of that, I extracted the contents of the installers and they both contain the same exe file with version of 6.0.23181 in properties.

Hi Timur,
there really seems to be something insane happening, because I am literally downloading the same file from the link I sent you and it installs the 6.0.23421 version for me.
Please contact me at [email protected] with a link to this forum thread and I’ll try to solve this problem with you close up.
