My bad...exported everything, now can't open eM Client

Have been having Windows and EMC issues for months. Had installed EMC 8 but it didn’t help so I went back to previous version and it was working somewhat OK. Wanted to back up my file but backup did not work. I created 3 new folders on an external drive for contacts, emails and settings and exported everything to that drive. Now EMC will not open so I can’t import them back in. I copied and pasted the folders and their contents into c:\users\myname\AppData\Roaming\eM Client but EMC will still not open. I can open the mail and contacts folders and see the contents but cannot see the settings. How to get everything working again? Many thanks.
