Hi, newish user here. This isn’t strictly a new question, but I think my issue is slightly different to the others posted about this.
I use the free version of eM Client, so can only have two mail accounts and they are both used. One of them is a pop3 account which I want to make into an imap account. How can I do this without losing all of my locally stored mails? If I do a backup using eM, then delete the pop3 account and create a new imap account (to the same email provider) can I then recover the emails from the backup? Or do I need to make a local backup? Or is there no way to do what I want to do.
Thanks.
If you want to keep a copy of your POP messages “before moving them to your IMAP account”, then suggest you first go to “Menu / File / Export” and save / export those POP account messages as (.eml) in a folder on your desktop.
Then once all your POP account messages are exported / saved to your desktop, “then drag / move the POP account messages in eM Client to your IMAP account” same mail folders.
After you drag the messages to your IMAP account folders, “click the dropdown on the right of Refresh” and click “Show Operations” to then see the status of the uploading / synching to your IMAP account. Don’t close eM Client till it’s all done.
Then once you are certain all your POP messages are all in your IMAP account, then go to “Menu / Accounts” and remove your POP account.
Then lastly reimport those exported / saves .eml messages “to eM Client Local Folders” at the bottom left, so you can still access them locally if you need to later via “Menu / File / Import” and choose (.eml) and select your desktop folder.
Lastly before doing anything make a manual backup via “Menu / Backup” in case you need to restore for any reason. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via the dropdown on the right of Refresh.
Thank you, cyberzork! Much appreciated.
