Messages go to Trash folder

When I open eM Client program, the Inbox initially shows messages, then they are gone ?!
I then open the Trash folder (just learned that recently) AND the messages are there ?? They were moved/transferred to the Trash folder with NO action taken by me ? I already went into the settings and removed the check mark to ‘Remove Trash on Exit’.
What can I do to correct this situation so I can retain & maintain my e-mail messages ?

Do you have ANY rules in your list of rules (MENU > RULES) that may be acting on your incoming email and directing them to TRASH?

If you disable ALL rules, are the emails still going in the TRASH folder?

Have you checked to see if your email host is acting on those emails?
