Since installing em client recently on a windows 10 laptop i frequently get a pop up box saying “"server says unavailable maximum number of connection from user ip exceeded 10”
I often have to click on OK numerous times before it disappears.
Can this be corrected in the settings?

Is this for a Gmail address?
If you sync with Gmail - don’t set the time shorter than 10 min.

Make sure your mail app isn’t set to check for new email too frequently.
If your mail app checks for new messages more than once every 10 minutes,
the app’s access to your account could be blocked.

Other mail providers and servers may give a different message.
It may mean that your polling interval is set too short or too frequent.
Try changing it via Menu/Tools/General/General > Synchronization
