Marking/unmarking email as important

I’m using eMClient 10.4.4195 (7d32f97)

Very recently I have received several emails from an AirBnB host, using the airbnb.com email address. They have all got the ‘important’ red exclamation mark showing. These have been delivered to my standard email account hosted by fastmail.com. I can’t find any way of untagging these as important. I’d like to unmark the exclamation indicator. To me they’re just standard emails. No other domain has shown this behaviour during this period.

I’m not sure whether this is something I have inadvertantly done, or something that is determined by airbnb.com. I’ve read other suggesstions on this topic which appear to end up making modification in GMail IMAP settings, but I’m not aware that either airbnb.com or I are using GMail at all.

Any suggestions?

It’s usually the mail server that automatically marks emails as Important like Gmail does unless you have setup a eg: Rule to mark a specific senders email with the important local or server tag. You can check for any specific rules possibly setup via “Menu / Rules” and dblclick any rules in there to view them.

You can manually remove Important tags by eg: “right clicking on the subject” and click “Tag” and then “click on the important tag”.

Or you can also manually remove the Important tag by “clicking on Tag in the toolbar” and then clicking the Important tag, “if you have customised the toolbar” via right clicking on it.

You can also check for any existing important local or server tags setup via going to “Menu / Tags” and remove it if its a Local important tag.

If you have a server important tag, you can sometimes see it via “clicking the drop-down on the right of Local Tags” at the top of Tags depending on if Fastmail server tags are supported. Others Fastmail users or moderators might comment on that if that is supported.

Yes it’s strange that your Fast mail account has an Important Tag, as “I’ve only personally seen Important tags with a Gmail account”, but Fastmail might also now have them too . Others who use Fastmail might update that in this thread

If you do have an actual Gmail account and don’t want to automatically show the Important tag, then go to “Menu / Accounts” and click on your Gmail account "IMAP” tab, and set Tags to “Never” as in the below example. Make sure you “Save & Close” accounts with that option set.

If you dont have a Gmail account and that email keeps being marked as Important, then your mailbox at the server end “might be like Gmail” and have an option to not show the Important tag. Your Fastmail server technical support can advise on that and where that is if it’s not a Gmail account.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply and the attempted solutions. I don’t think I explained my situation clearly enough. Apologies for that.

The symptoms I am seeing have nothing at all to do with GMail. I have these several emails from airbnb.com all marked with a red “!” exclamation mark. I would like to remove this. According to eMClient documentation the “!” signifies important emails -
" Priority - important emails will show an exclamation mark icon "

I have reconfigured my columns in the main view to include the Priority column but I have no idea what controls the contents of this column for each email message. Again airbnb.com is the only source of messages that contains this.

By way of experiment I added, for the first time, a GMail account to eMClient. The messages there ALL have the Google ‘important’ tag set, but NONE has the eMClient Priority “!” icon. If I right-click, Tag > on these I get several options > Important (checked), > Junk, > Notes, > None etc.

Going to my problematic emails from airbnb, right-click Tag > shows only one sub-option, > None. I can’t find any equivalent such as right-click Priority > anywhere in eMClient to effect a change to that indicator.

My issue is the Priority “!”. It is not a Flag, it is not a Tag, it is not a Category, I don’t know where to control it.

Oh Ok I understand what you mean now. The Priority Red (important exclamation icon) “is set by the Senders Mail Client” and i’m not aware of anyway to remove it once received in an email other than eg: re forwarding it to yourself. Others forum uses though might know how to do that,

Thanks again for the very prompt response.

In this case, I assume the “Sender” is airbnb.com. I do have records of previous email messages from Airbnb which don’t show this Priority status. It only affects a recent group associated with one particular booking. Perhaps something has changed at their end. I can’t see any mechanism in eMClient (or indeed my email host, Fastmail) for controlling this.

Just one of these things, I guess.

Thanks for your input.

Yes i suspect their automatic mailer sending the bookings out is marking them as priority emails.

I only know that when you compose emails in eM Client “you can also make emails priority for the receiver” via clicking the important exclamation icon on the compose toolbar.

I can’t see any mechanism in eM Client (or indeed my email host, Fastmail) for controlling this.

Yes as far as i know for Priority emails, there is nothing in an online mailbox or the mail client end to control / remove that, and “is only that the sender enables that when they email”, which will show in the email header as eg: X-Priority: 1 (highest) Importance: high.

But if there is a way to remove that in eM Client someone will update this thread.
