Local Folders Observation

From what I gathered on the uses of emclient’s Local Folders is to keep data on my computer and off the server.
When I delete a message in emclient it gets deleted from the server. So, what use do have for Local Folders.
If I need to keep an important email I simply right click on it and I can then save it to my hdd.
Maybe I’m missing something.

Yes that’s correct

Local folders is used by some users for eg: POP mail accounts “if they don’t want it in a separate account folder tree”, or is used by some users to eg: store old mail , events, contacts, files, and notes. or archive mail locally in those folders “to avoid filling up their cloud account online”.

If I need to keep an important email I simply right click on it and I can then save it to my hdd.

You could instead of saving it to your hdd, store it in Local Folders all within the client.

If you do store / keep messages etc in Local Folders, make sure to backup eM Client regularly incase you need to restore in the future either automatically via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Backup” or manually via “Menu / Backup”.

I guess I was wondering more about why one has no access to calendar when Local Folders is disabled.

Local Folders is only required to be enabled “to see a (non cloud) account local calendar”.

So if you have a cloud account calendar and don’t see it in the calendar section, then we would need to know “what account type you have” and “who is your mail & calendar host / provider”.

Calendar providers such as eg: Google, Microsoft or Yahoo will just normally automatically add in like in the below IMAP calendar examples.

Some cloud calendars providers accounts however “don’t automatically add in when first setting up”, and have to be manually added after like some eg: CalDAV hosted calendars

All accounts are IMAP.
My calendar is local. I not using calendars in any of my accounts

Then if you choose to use a Local calendar, you will need to keep Local Folders checked / enabled to see it and regularly backed up.

Have you thought about changing to an IMAP acct calendar which “then you can see on all your other devices” configured with the same account.
