Is there a way of changing the colours of the local folders and subfolders in the new theme editor?

No.
Unfortunately this forum does not allow for such a short answer, but it is still no, there is no way to that.

I am also hoping as I would find it very useful.
Yeah I wish they had implemented this. Especially on v8 where the folders are hollow and hard to see, it’s really not well made. Design is really bad.
But I don’t think they will ever implement it cause it has been asked for years now
