in Outlook or Thunderbird it is possible, to load only the e-mail header from the server and not the complete email. After checking the header, the user can decide to download the complete email or delete it directly on the server.
So a download of infected junk emails can be avoided on the one hand, and on the other hand some potential spam mailers won’t know that the email has been opened.
