Why doesn’t the selected message load in the same window of the message list, whether the app is configured to open the selected message on the right or at the bottom of the list?
If you click on a message in the message list, it will be displayed in the preview pane, either to the right or below the list depending on your display settings.
If you double click on a message in the message list, it will open in its own window.
