Is there a way to filter unread messages in a folder?

I am new to em client, and trying to figure out a way to filter the unread messages in different folders. Is there a trick?

I do not know a way to do this. There is a Marked as Read option in the search tool, but missing is a Marked as Unread option that would do the trick nicely.

I believe the pre-set Smart folders might solve this for you.
Go to Tools>Settings>General>Show Smart folders.
The Unread folder will contain all unread messages from all your accounts. If you wish to use or hide any other Smart folders, just right-click on them and choose to Show/Hide them.
