I have managed to synch my Gmail contacts with em Client. But I don’t know how to use the groups I have created to send group emails? Is this possible or do I need to create separate/local distribution lists on em Client?

You can go to Contacts, select your desired group, switch to custom view. After you’ve done done, press Ctrl+A to select all contacts and right-click to send message. This way you can send a single email to all the contacts in the group.
