Since my Microsoft 365 and iCloud accounts are not supported for tag syncing, I was wondering if it was possible to move some preferences to a network or cloud folder (OneDrive, iCloud Drive, or DropBox) and adding a symbolic link to achieve synchronisation across computers. Similarly for rules.
You cannot currently move eM Client tag settings to cloud network drives or cloud folders.
Tags can only be synced on specific Servers as in @Gary post below from the following thread.

“We don’t sync local tags”.
“But in recent versions we do sync server tags dependent on the type of server you are connecting to. If you have Exchange, Dovecot, IceWarp, Cyrus or Google server, it is possible”.
“You will see what is available to you in Menu > Tags. Create the tags there rather than Local”
In regard to Syncing Rules, again your cannot currently move eM Client rule settings to cloud network drives or cloud folders.
Rules work similar to eM Client Tags which has “Local and Server” rules, where “depending on the type of server you have”, determines if you can then access those same rules on multiple computers or devices.
You can access Server Side Rules with Exchange/Office 365, IceWarp and Google/Gmail mail accounts.
“eM Client documentation on Server Side Rules”
Server-side rules
“Currently available for Exchange/Office 365, IceWarp and Google/Gmail mail servers”
“Server side rules are applied directly on the mail server. This means that the server rules you create in eM Client will show up and be applied in other places where you check the email, such as webmail or your phone. The available rule creation templates are fewer for server side rules (such as not being able to set a rule for when an email is sent) because of the limitations of the providers’ APIs. Additionally, there are some rule conditions available from servers that aren’t supported yet by eM Client’s UI. This doesn’t mean that the rule won’t be applied, it just means that you won’t be able to edit the conditions of that rule within eM Client. Finally, it’s important to know that server side rules are only applied on incoming messages. It’s not possible to apply a server side rule on old messages within eM Client. Running server rules on old messages must be done within your webmail”.
“You can switch between your lists of Local and Server side rules (if available) by clicking on the drop-down menu next to the + New rule button. If this drop-down menu isn’t available, that means that you haven’t added a mail account which supports server side rules in eM Client”.
Thanks for the comprehensive answer … I had hoped to see the server-side rules in my Office 365 account (set up as Outlook via OAuth), but all I see is local rules. Am I missing something? Does this only work with IMAP, which - I believe - my organisation has disabled?

Mmm. According to the eM Client 9.2 help documentation Office 365 “does support Server Side rules”, so yes that is strange you are not seeing them if you are running V9.2.
Sry I don’t have an Office 365 acct to test. Hopefully though someone else on this free community forum can test that or know why you are not seeing it in Rules via the dropdown.
We support both server tags and server Rules with Microsoft Office 365 email accounts.
You need to setup the account by going to Menu > Accounts > Add Account > Automatic Setup. This will configure the account as Exchange, where these things are possible.
Okay, that doesn’t seem to work for me. Automatic Setup just keeps spinning saying “Looking for server configuration records.”
