In case you buy the licenses without lifetime updates, which are obviously cheaper. When you want to update to new versions, do you pay a cost for each version, and will I know the amount at that time? Or how can I access the updates later?

It is a single cost for the upgrade, so the same if you upgrade from 7 to 9 or from 8 to 9.
