I am not sure I understand the question precisely, but to get the number of your unread messages, you would need to be connected to the account, and to get the number of all your unread messages across all of your accounts, you would need to be connected to all of your accounts. If this doesn’t answer your question, please, rephrase your question.

Number of emails in all subfolders.

The totals do not roll-up . You must expand the folders to see unread count.

One caveat - they do roll up to the smart folders. For example, the smart folder inbox shows the count of unread messages from all inboxes.
