I cannot make my sbcglobal.net email account to work please help I am new to the software

If you go to Menu > Tools > Accounts, check that you have the following settings by clicking on your IMAP and SMTP tabs:
IMAP
host: imap.mail.att.net
Port: 993
Security policy: Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)
SMTP
host: smtp.mail.att.net
Port: 587
Security policy: Force usage of SSL/TLS
If these are correct, and it still doesn’t work, try disabling your anti-virus and firewall and then try again.
I’m also having trouble downloading sbcglobal.net emails. Pls note:
- the first 14k-some sbcglobal emails downloaded just fine.
- i entered SMTP settings just fine
- i do NOT have pop3 (but only IMAP) so i tried entering the pop3 settings there and also changing them back with the SMTP settings you indicated above.
- my gmail has always downloaded just fine.
- i have your free/2 email service
- latest error in log:
7:11:08 PM [email protected] [POP3] MailClient.Accounts.SocketException: Error when receiving from account *** @sbcglobal.net : Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
