How to have tags properly sorted

Hello,

I am using tags (the gmail way) on my mail.
I noticed that tags are not alphabetically sorted in the list when I want to tag a message.
This makes tag assignment very tedious as I need to search within a long list.

How to have or force the correct sort of tags?

Use case:

  • I click on the tag icon on the mail window to open the tag list (Pix 1)
  • At the end of drop-down list, you can see some unsorted tags (Pix 2)

You can “drag the tags up or down” in whatever order you like if they are not in the right order.

Thx @cyberzork for your suggestion.

Unfortunately, this is not practical as I have many tags.

I can’t explain why most of the tags are correctly ordered and some are not.
And the tag list on the left margin (the “folder” list) is correctly ordered.
Maybe a clean cache operation may do the job?

Could possibly be some eg: hidden characters or spaces in the tags somewhere and is causing them to be out of order.

So try remove the tags that are not in the right order and readd them again and see what happen.

Apart from that you could try updating to a later version of eM Client “depending on what version you have currently”. You can see and download all the latest versions via the release history page.

If you do update eM Client, make a backup first via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via clicking the drop-down on the right of Refresh top left.

Now if you already have the latest version, then try uninstalling eM Client and reinstalling incase its a program installation related issue. If you have Windows, “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard. Then reinstall.

  • Hidden characters in tags
    No. I used tags for ages ; some are several years old. I used other mail clients with no troubles. No such things happen with other mailers (web or desktop apps)
    The folder list on the left side (which shows tags as folders) is correctly sorted.
    Only the tag list from the icon, either in the message or in the window’s bar, is wrong.

  • eMclient version
    I use the latest and update as soon as a new release is available

  • Recreate tags
    I tried. And it does not change. Even if it is eventually ok for some recreated tags.
    Only some of the newer tags have this. Not all. Not systematically. It seems rather random.

  • Reinstalling eMclient
    I did it too. With full purge of user prefs and data.
    When rebuilding the data, it seems fine. But the symptoms reoccur randomly later.

I am on MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1

Am I the only one to face this?
