I use AVAST anti virus

Sorry Gilles, I don’t speak French.

If you disable your anti-virus application, do you still get the error?

Yes when I disable avast I can receive mails.

Then you need to configure Avast to allow eM Client.

I don’t know how ?

Can I keep this avast setting without stress ?

em client will auto fill the correct setting for IMAP.  YOU need to log into gmail account and enable IMAP and also turn on security apps settings for insecure apps

Yes, if you use the Automatic Setup for your Gmail account, it will use the same settings as I have given above. Those are the ones that work best.

Gilles issue is that Avast is blocking his connection, so the IMAP settings really is secondary.

ok thanks.
it seems to be ok with this settings

I’m still getting SMTP errors even with allowing less secure apps. Any suggestions? This shouldnt be that hard to configure!

Less secure apps only needs to be enabled for POP3 access. It should not affect IMAP or SMTP.

These are the best (and automatically configured) settings for Gmail:

If you are still having issues after changing to these settings, disable your anti-virus/firewall application and see if there is any difference.

If not, go to Menu > Tools > Operations and look for any SMTP errors in the Log tab.

Another option is to remove the Gmail account from eM Client, then add it again using the Automatic Setup.
