do you perhaps have your hotmail account set up as AirSync? This protocol is being discontinued by Microsoft.
I suggest setting up your mail as IMAP.
Go to Tools>Accounts.
Click New account, but instead of automatic setup choose Mail>Other.
Choose IMAP protocol and configure your servers.
Incoming server: imap-mail.outlook.com
Outgoing server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Finish the set up.
If you have any problem connecting after the setup, go to Tools>Accounts and change the security policy under IMAP and SMTP to the legacy option.
