Gmail and 6Gbs of emails

how do I stop all 7 years worth of Gmail downloading when I first add a Gmail account?

You can’t. Unless you delete them. Or simply choose to archive them and set eM not to download them.

Thanks for your reply. I got kind of around it by changing the IMAP limit in Gmail settings to 1000 (the lowest you can set).
