gmail accounts will not connect after restore

have the eM client on a laptop (Win 8.1) and desktop (Win 10). I wanted to transfer my data to he laptop primarily because I needed the Local folders. Running version 7.2.37929.0 of the client. I backed up from the desktop and restored to the laptop. Everything appeared to restore correctly except that my two gmail accounts will not connect. Get a red exclamation point and “Connection Failed” error. eM worked previously on the laptop and continues to work on the desktop. I disabled the AV just in case, but no affect and the AV is the same as is running on the Desktop (Sophos) in any event. The IMAP and SMTP configuration settings are identical on both devices. Gmail runs fine in the browser. I don’t want to delete and recreate the accounts as I will loose everything in the InBox and Sent items and I cannot move them to local folders as they will not download from the server. I wonder if it is a credentials issue? How do you provide (or re-provide) the gmail passwords?

Removing then adding the Gmail account again will not lose anything. The data is stored on the server, so as soon as it connects, it will re-sync that data.

I’ve deleted the accounts; recreated them. they still won’t sync even though eM does ask google for permission. I also deleted the eM client and reinstalled and added my gmail account. Still won’t connect. Tried to restore again from backup, same result. eM will just NOT sync on this computer. If I look under Signing and Encryption it says there are no valid certificates. I don’t recall that being necessary before, is it? I created one and it did not help.

Signing and Encryption does not have anything to do with connecting to the server. It deals with the way messages are electronically signed or encrypted.

In your web browser, go to your Google settingsand remove eM Client from apps with account access.

Restart eM Client

If that does not help, try restarting your router, or disable any VPN or anti-virus/firewall application.

I took the laptop to a different location and connected. eM Client downloaded. So the wi-fi was just so poor that it would time-out I suppose. Funny, it didn’t seem to otherwise affect other internet activity … perhaps a little slower, but not terribly so. But as soon as I connected to another location it downloaded all outstanding messages. Thanks for your suggestions.
