I use eM Client so that e-mails are grouped into “Unread” and “Read” groups. When I open a relatively old unread e-mail (it gets “read” status), it is then automatically moved to the “Read” section, which is inconvenient, as the e-mail list scrolls to the bottom of the screen. Also, in case I mistakenly opened a wrong e-mail, it is hard to find it later from the long list of “read” e-mails and mark it back “unread”.
Feature request: after reading an e-mail, it still stays in the “unread” group for some time (for instance, until pressing “refresh”) but with a non-bold font.
This feature will be similar to Gmail, and I’ve found it very useful.
And it should be vice versa also - if I mark read e-mail as unread, it should not immediately jump to the top of the list, but remain in the same position of the list for some time.
Under Settings > Mail > Read, set the “Mark messages read after displaying for X seconds” to something like 5 or 10 seconds so you can scan but if you quickly move to a different message, it’s still marked as Read and therefore stays in the list.
Under Settings > Mail > Read, uncheck the first option mentioned above but then check “Mark message read after opening in separate window.” This allows all messages to remain marked as read no matter how long it takes you to read and will only get marked read if you double-click to open the message.
This way, you’re in control as to when those messages get marked as Read and thus when they will get moved to the appropriately filtered list.
First, I already use “Mark messages read after displaying for X seconds” and have set it to 0 seconds which is perfect for 95% of the time. As I want to speed up my work, I don’t want to wait for 5 or 10 seconds with each e-mail to set the status to “read” or make additional clicks for this. For the same reason, I always use “Mark message read after opening in separate window”=TRUE. Therefore, these parameters are perfectly fine already.
The issue I’m referring to affects max 5% of the cases where I mistakenly closed the window, thinking about dealing with it later but forgetting to mark it as unread. Or I thought that I would not deal with it first, but then, after closing it within 1-2 minutes, thinking that it still should be dealt with later. Then it is very inconvenient that the e-mail has jumped on the screen to the bottom immediately (to the huge list of unread e-mails, sorted by date). It would be much better if the e-mail remains within “unread” e-mails for some time (non-bold) - just to give enough time to mark it as “unread” again in a matter of minutes.
It is needed also vice versa. Assume that I’m scrolling through some old e-mails (searching for something), opening some of these, and marking some of these as unread. I don’t want this process to be interrupted by the jumping of these e-mails to the top of the screen right away. It would be more convenient if the e-mail client would give some time to do the reordering of the e-mails.
Gmail has very similar behaviour, and this is for a reason. I’d really love to see a similar feature also in eM client.
