Emails do not send

Emails do not send. Emails remain in outgoing box.
I can use calendar and other email features such as receiving email.
I used Outlook. I have to go to Outlook directly to send all emails.
This is frustrating. Any ideas?

I guess the obvious is to check all server settings for your email account, particularly SMTP. I had a similar problem, where I changed the Security Policy setting in SMTP from ‘Force usage of SSL/TLS’ to ‘Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)’ and and that fixed it. It may not be the problem but it’s easy to try. That, and trying each of all the usual SMTP ports (25, 465, 587).

Hi ddtmm:

Thanks so much for responding. I would love to try the ideas you suggested. Those actions seem to be way above my pay grade. Can you walk me through what I would need to do please?

Again, many thanks!

Sure. Go into Accounts (on Mac: under the eM Client main menu, top of screen. Windows: top-left menu of the eM Client window). On this Accounts page, highlight your email account in the left margin, then click the SMTP tab in the righ-hand section. There you will see the selection for Security Policy. This is where I selected 'Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)’. Make note of what the current setting is first so that you can put it back, in case this change doesn’t fix the problem.

I hope this is what the issue is. Report back if it doesn’t fix it.

Hello ddtmm:

It did not work. Item goes to out box and just sits there. Item must be deleted.

Other thoughts?

Who is your mailbox providor ?

Outlook.

Is that Outlook.com , or other Outlook mail server ?

Also is it an IMAP or Exchange account ?

Also what version of eM Client do you have ?

Hello cyberzork:

I have: 10.1.4588, fllezab. I am using the newest version of Outlook on my computer. Is that Outlook.com? I prefer Emclient.

Hope this helps.

Depends if it’s a personal or business type Outlook account, but if it’s hosted at Microsoft then the sending mail is usually the same for IMAP.

Some accounts like Office 365 accounts use eg: the following SMTP server settings.

smtp.office365.com
Port 587
Force usage SSL/TLS
Server requires authentication
use credentials

eM Client normally uses “AirSync to send mail” with IMAP accounts where the SMTP tab is then “not used” even if you have it enabled. So you can disable that from view and still send mail.

So “try disabling the SMTP tab” in the General Tab and then save accounts and close and reopen eM Client and click Refresh and see if that sends mail.

Note: If the SMTP tab is ghosted, “set another account as the default to then unghost it”.

If it doesn’t send mail with the SMTP tab disabled, then “remove and readd your Outlook account” (via the add account wizard at the top of accounts). As could possibly then just be a eg: corrupted account and might just need adding in new again.

Apart from that, it could be related to eg: a background program running resident. Programs that can sometimes interfere are eg: Optional Firewall / Security programs, Optional Antivirus programs or VPNs. So if you have anything like that installed “other than what came default with the OS”, try completely disabling those to test

Lastly if that still fails to send, click the dropdown on the right of Refresh and click “Show Operations”. Then click the “Log tab” and look for any obvious error messages and paste them in this thread. Blank out anything personal.

Hi cyberzork:

I had to delete my last post to you as I forgot to remove my name on the items. Of interest is that when I send something via my outlook account the item does show in the send area of emclient. I just can not create emails in emclient for sending. This is a person account, not business.

I am afraid to delete my account as I fear I will lose all my calendar stuff.

Thanks.

Hello cyberzork: I forgot to add that as you can see in the photo, I can not adjust the IMAP or the SMTP. These items are blocked out for me.

Thanks again.

Hello:

Here is a copy of the log you requested. No VPN or firewall problems here. No additional virus programs. Use Defender.

Thank you.

Hi cyberzork:

Here is a copy of what the outbox looks like when I try to send an email directly from emclient.

Thanks.

Of interest is that when I send something via my outlook account the item does show in the send area of emclient.

After the email has been sent by the mail server, eM Client “will then update the sent folder” under your Outlook account. So as it’s not, the next thing I would do is remove and readd the acct.

I am afraid to delete my account as I fear I will lose all my calendar stuff.

If your Calendar events are all “in your eM Client Outlook account” and (not in Local Folders calendar) then it will normally all come back from the server when the account is re-added.

So when you go to outlook.com and go to your calendar “you will normally see all your calendar events” so you know it’s a server based calendar.
