Normally this is the case but it would appear that this security issue was introduced in later versions.

This is the first mention that I have seen of a security issue in any version (although there might have been).  Since it can not be determined by anyone here whether the workaround actually solves the issue and that there are no other related issues (like the one you reported when forwarding emails), the safest bet in this case would be to fallback to the last version that doesn’t have a known security issue.

Hi All,

We came to the same conclusion that this behaviour is being caused by the Avatar feature. As contacting this service (Gravatar) doesn’t posses any security threat, we keep Downloading avatars as the default setting.

As we respect all your requests, we’ll consider changing the default settings or adding information about this background connection when developing the next version of eM Client.
