can em client be set so all emails including attachments (even if big) are automatically downloaded.

there is setting for that in Tools -> Accounts -> IMAP -> Download messages for offline use.

Just to add with the problem I have. It also depends on the “Unsafe Content” option under Read. By default, it under “Block Unsafe Content in All Message”. With this setting any non-plain text email will be blocked -> hence it will not be downloaded even if you set it so in Download message offline.
I tried this but still, messages are not being downloaded for offline use.
Is there a way to redownload all the messages? OR when switching to “work offline” is there a way to tell the client to download all the messages that are not downloaded yet?
