eM Hangs Up on Synchronizing and Downloading

Have had little issues with eM as my default Gmail access format until today.  Here’s my symptoms:
1.  the “activity circle” spins constantly next to the titled email (gmail) account
2.  the activity grid at the bottom of the screen shows the following when I click it:
     A.  Downloading Message Part…
     B.  Synchronizing Folders

I have made no changes to eM recently and in fact deleted it this morning and reinstalled.  Still have the same issues:  I will click on a new email received and it won’t open.  The activity wheel continues to spin…
