eM Client V8.2 Beta

It’s really a curious thing that this recent beta is working flawlessly for me, and on two w10 laptops. Email, syncing, calendar, contact management, etc. Not a single flaw, glitch or unexpected behavior in almost two weeks.

To all in this thread:
If you’re still fighting the BETA version crashing contact me at [email protected] for further instructions, please. We need you to help us with some advanced diagnostics.

What kind of instability are you referring to here? We’ve diagnosed the dump file you’ve sent us (thank you for that), but it is tricky, because it doesn’t crash in our code, but somewhere much deeper in Windows, somewhere in OS notifications code. Does this instability mean it crashes silently on the start or after running for some time or do you get our standard error dialog? This is really important for us to make a distinctiont between different issues. Does you brother have the same experience?

What we mean by instability is that the program is not consistently (opening most of the time) on both my and my bros pc’s. The Beta V8.2.1107 GUI will load and you see the Toolbar along the top and mail folders down the left, but the (body of the email) never loads. Then after a few seconds the whole program closes automatically and no error box appears…

It sits there waiting to load something, and eventually seems to give up and crash. So its not after a while of being open, its just after the main program GUI loads where it crashes.

When the Beta does stay open though it works fine

The problem too is that when its starts crashing, it then causes errors in the database and eventually it will never open again due to we suspect too many crashes in the program itself. We have tried the Beta with our exiting IMAP databases and even created new IMAP databases and same issue. We have deleted eM Client hidden folders and Program Files folders and run registry cleans and same issues only with this new Beta staying open on inital load…

The previous eM Client V8.1.1060.0 & V8.1.1087 programs have no issues on either pc’s with our exiting IMAP databases or new IMAP databases

Note:- We run stock Windows 10 pc’s 20H2 (Official released Build 19042.867)and no optional firewalls, antivirus programs or vpns etc.

We are evaluating this issue into deep, because in our opinion this is a blocker of the 8.2 version release
(we don’t know yet how often this may happen).
However the issue is really tricky as it seems it is not a bug in eM Client’s code, but rather a combination of Windows and .Net Core (specific version) code. We work really hard to resolve this nontrivial issue currently.

To all the team at eM Client involved in 8.2 Beta, thanks so much for sorting out the technical problems with the problematic opening / startup issues we were having :+1:. Its now running like a dream

We can now confirm it is a bug in MS code, but one of our developer was able to fix it even though it is in MS code. We will just need to include our own version of the problematic component until MS is able to fix it. Thank you very much for your cooperation, this was a gamechanger for us and we wouldn’t be able to resolve this tricky issue without your help.
