eM Client does not respect default Windows PDF handler

Hi all,
Win11, eM Client 10.3.2619 (1e54f4a).
When opening pdf attached to e-mail eM Client firt opens it with a Windows dialogue to select with which program the pdf should be opened. Dialogue offers to open “once” or “always” but it does not matter, since next time it asks the same.
In other programs it works fine and open right away.
Any idea?
Daniel

That’s is an OS file association problem.

Close eM Client and open your Windows File manager. Then “right click on a pdf file” and click “open with” and choose your preferred pdf reader and select “Allways open”. Then reboot your computer. That works for me in Windows 11.

If that doesn’t work, then close eM Client and try “uninstalling your preferred pdf reader” and then “reinstall your preferred pdf reader” and reboot and set it default again. Then open eM Client.

Or close eM Client and “try setting a different pdf reader as the default” and reboot. If that works, then try setting back your preferred reader as default and reboot again & see if that fixes it.

Lastly If that still doesn’t work, you might then need to eg: manually edit your registry and check & fix your pdf association “if you are proficient in doing that”. If you do edit the registry “make a backup of your current registry first” incase you need to restore via this Microsoft link.

It seems like eM Client isn’t recognizing your default PDF viewer. To fix this, try these steps: First, ensure your PDF viewer is set as the default in Windows 11 by going to Settings > Apps > Default apps and checking the .pdf file association. Then, in eM Client, go to Settings > General to make sure there are no settings overriding this. You can also try clearing the eM Client cache under Settings > Maintenance > Clear Cache. If the issue persists, try reinstalling eM Client or checking for updates.
