Echange Server Configuration on Non-Default URL

I have a problem configuring EM Client with Exchange Server whose configuration is not located on default URL (https://exch.example.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx) but on custom URL (https://oa.example.com/EWS/exchange.asmx). Since this is my customer’s Exchange Server I can not force them to change this URL.

How can I change the Exchange Server URL >>during<< account setup?

I know I can change Exchange Server URL later - when account is already created. But since I can not create it - because account setup will not allow you to proceed if it can not contact the server - I can not setup this…

I found a partial workaround: if I configure some Exchange Server whose default config is on default URL and then change all settings (including email, username, password, Exchange Server URL) then I get access to the account. BUT: Since Inbox has changed (I assume GUID is not the same) it is not recognized as inbox anymore and it does not apper under Smart Folders and is not the first folder in the list of folders… so this is only a partial workaround and I would like to have completely working solution with Exchange Server on non-default URL…

Marko

Hello Marko,

When you are adding an e-mail that is located on Custom URL, setting it up as Exchange (skipping the Automatic Setup and selecting Mail -> Exchange) should automatically detect it as such, although you might have to wait for a little bit.

Hi Maurice!

Thanks for quick response. I went to Menu->Tools->Accounts->New Account(+)->Mail->Exchange->Next and entered email, username and password and clicked Next. EM Client  is then checking the Exchange Server and responsing:

“The server was found, but authentication failed. Check the email address and password.”

From here I can not continue… If I press Next for many times and wait and press Next again - nothing changes. Always the same message…

But if I add another Exchange Server account - where this works - and then go to settings (Menu->Tools->Accounts) and change the settings of Exchange Server account with exactly the same email, username, password and correct (custom) server URL it works…

However - inbox and trashcan folders are not recognized as inbox and trashcan but as regular folders so I can not use them in “Smart Folders” and also some other things don’t work as they should.

Marko

Hello Marko,

This is not standard behavior. It seems that there is a problem in the server’s ability to synchronize. We would ask you to test out the automatic connectivity by using an official Microsoft tool at https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ Please test both options under the Microsoft Exchange Web Services Connectivity Tests and let us know what the results are.

Thank you,
Maurice

Hello Maurice,

I did the test with default settings and - as expected  - the test failed. But when I selected the second option (Microsoft Exchange Web Services Connectivity Tests -> Service Account Access (Developers)) and entered the non-default URL into “Specify Exchange Web Services URL”, I got the message “Connectivity Test Successful”.

So this is correct behaviour, when the Exchange Server is on non-default URL - like it is in my case - and I can not change it, because it is my customer with 2750 employees (Slovenian Telecom).

And also the eM Client supports this operation - but not at the time when you are adding new email account - but later, when email account is already established, you can set this non-default URL in the settings. So we have a “chicken and egg” problem here: you must first establish the account to set the non-default URL, but you can not establish it without non-default URL… So this makes your option for non-default URL useless, unless you go with a workaround I explained above (I used another Exchange Server Account which is on default URL and then changed ALL settings, including email, username, password, etc. - and got problems with changed folder GUID, etc.)

Marko

Hello Marko,

Thank you for running the test. We will however need to see the complete logs that were created by these tests. Could you please send them to [email protected] with a link to this thread?

Thank you,
Maurice

@Hester: I’ve sent you complete logs on you email.

Hello Marko,

Thank you, we will look through them and get back to you.

Maurice
