We have been testing eM Client to see if it would be a viable replacement to Outlook in our organization. We are about 3 weeks into our test and almost ready to green light the purchase of it and change over however starting yesterday morning eM stopped working on all computers we were testing it on.
What it is doing
When we open eM it performs its initial sync just fine and shows the new emails that have come in since close of business the previous day. The problem is generally we can only click on one perhaps two of the messages before we get the dots marching across the top of the screen showing that it is trying to load the message but it never is able to load. We have let it sit up to two hours with no effect. No errors appear in the operations pane during this time. The last line of the log tab shows downloading message part.
What we have done to troubleshoot
Seeing as it was a global issue we immediately looked to see if it was a windows update and none had been installed. We also tried disabling AV protection to see if that made a difference. Exceptions have been added to make sure the firewall is not blocking eM. When monitoring network bandwidth usage when opening eM and selecting messages there is an inital spike when it connects and syncs the IMAP account however there is never a corresponding spike when we are clicking on messages. Download messages for offline use has been enabled on two systems per another post I found in the forum however that recommendation did not help on the first system tried and we are still waiting for the second system to finish downloading messages. On average we are seeing about 1.7Mbps to .7Mbps from our email provider (50 square fiber connection so it is a bottleneck on their end not ours). During this time we jumped back to Outlook so that we could continue conducting business and it has been working fine connecting to the same accounts. IMAP logging has been enabled however nothing seemed untoward to my admittedly novice eye.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. So far all who have been involved in the test have loved eM and would really like to make the jump.
EDIT
Now that the second system has competed its download of the messages it appears to be working fine. I will try a repair of the local cache on the other system and see if something just went wrong with the initial download. I am still curious however as to why it worked fine for a considerable amount of time and all of a sudden required this modification to the settings. Ideas?
