The Insert key on my keyboard is very close to keys that I use a lot (Backspace, Delete, Home, End). I have no use for the overtype (replace, overwrite) editing mode. So I disabled the Insert key in the Windows 10 registry using Sharp Keys. That was OK until recently but now I am using an app that relies on using the Insert key a lot.
Is there an option or hack I can use to completely disable the overtype edit mode in em Client? It’s what I don’t need and re-configuring the keyboard system-wide isn’t a great way to disable it.
As far as I know Windows can only disable the Insert key globally. But I also recently read that it does allow you to specify a different keyboard for each app, so maybe it is possible that way. You would need to assign a keyboard that you have remapped. You could ask on a Windows forum, where there are users who know about these configurations in the OS.
The easiest route though if you want to remap the keys separately for each application, is probably to install some keyboard utility to do that for you.
