Can’t believe that !! 
I am more than curious…
You will see the delete icon in the message list in the upcoming 9.2 release when you mouse over the message/conversation. It can also be disabled in settings for those who don’t want to see it.
I wonder if the same v9.2 bin icon could be also put in the “Subject” on the far right too ? Like Outlook did with the Red X as per @paul.maechler screenshot further up the thread.

Any chance we also get an archive button? Ideally even a configurable toolbar on hover.
V9.2.1185 for Windows has just been released & now has the “Hover Delete Bin icon” at the end of the subject as per @Gary screenshot in above post. It works great
