Corrupted Database Again

Once again my eM Client reports that the database is corrupted (20 - 30 times, in the 2 - 3 yr I’ve owned this app). And yes the program was shut-down correctly. Of course the “Restore Database” button didn’t work (never has). Therefore I restored the database as I always do, manually. Now for the first time the backups automatically made 3 days and 7 days ago would not run as eM Client responded that they were corrupted as well. I finally went back to the backup made on July 3 that I used to restore my database that was corrupted July 7 and this worked. My question is why would eM Client create two backups, both which it reports are corrupt??? I have never used an email client whose database is so fragile. I used Outlook and Thunderbird for years without anywhere near the corruption issues that eM Client reports. I now need to search for a new email client because I am frankly tired to constantly having to restore eM Client backups. I used the free version before I purchased a professional copy - in hindsight a big mistake.

Hey @rferris

Before you do anything make a Backup: (Menu >Backup)

You can run a repair of the DataBase as it can help.
Eollow these instructions:

Close eM Client and open a Windows Run window.
You do that by using the Win + R keys on your keyboard.
Paste in this command including the leading "

“C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client\MailClient.exe” /dbrepair

When that is done, restart eM Client

This is usually the first step, however, other disk problems can cause this.
If the repair doesn’t fully repair it, you should check your drive for errors

How to Check Disk for Errors using Command Prompt:

1./ Press Windows Key and tope CMD in Search
2./ In Right Panel Click “Run as Administrator”
3./ In new window type chkdsk C: /f/x/r & Click Enter
(there is a space between chkdsk & C: or other drive)
4./ If drive is in use tyoe Y & Click Enter
5./ System will restart PC & disk will be checked on boot
(if possible any errors will be repaired)

I think/hope I have a solution here. My wife has eM Client on her laptop and never seems to have any difficulties. I compared our Settings setup and found one glaring difference. Her backups are stored in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\eM Client\Backup while mine are stored in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\Backup. So my database is stored in the same folder that houses the eM Client database itself. So I’m guessing that the backup and corruption occurs due to recursion during the backup process (ie the backup creates a copy of itself because its included in the folder that is being backed up!!). Does this sound like a plausible explanation? I’ve changed my backup setup so that it’s identical to my wife’s setup and only time will tell whether I’ve found the solution.

Hey @rferris

I suppose it could cause an issue, yon can of course manually remove the backup files.
I suggest that you run the Repair once you have made the changes at:
Settings >General >Backup (Do not forget to SAVE & CLOSE)

Make a manual Backup before you start deleting anything.
