On opening emClient today a popup asked me to upgrade to v8, free or pro. I clicked, entered my email, was told I was already a registered user.
Went back to emClient and ALL MY CONTACTS HAVE BEEN WIPED
I am pretty stressed by this to say the least…
Help please? Thanks
(I have an old version backup (2018) but if I restore that will I wipe my current contacts if they are hidden somewher
yes.
Although on inspection of that my emClients contacts don’t seem to have been syncing with it. But maybe thats because my emC wasn’t automatically adding addresses from my inbox as they came in.
@Giles_Udy All depends on the type of Mail account whether contacts are automatically synchronized when email accounts are added / connected to EM Client. Sometimes synchronizing contacts from an online account can take a little time if the account is just setup or upgraded so give it a bit of time.
However If contacts don’t sync (after along time) and you have an eg: IMAP or Exchange account etc , and your contacts are showing ok online (but not in EM Client contacts), then go to your contacts online and "export them to eg: vCard (.vcf) which will then import to EM Client via “Menu / Import” at the top left.
Really helpful - thank you so much.
Its a bit like getting a scam text, you going into semi-panic mode and then lose the ability to logic it through.
Although… until today when I wanted to email anyon e I’d received and email from (ie not theoretically in my contacts list) the [send to] line auto-filled.
Your advise to wait and give it time to settle first makes sense. I’ll do that.
Thanks again - very helpful!
Similar issue here, in that the v7 contacts were not pulled across to v8.
I do have a copy of the old EMC v7 folder though and can see various dat files in there, can these be used to import contacts?
Yeah they are shown.
I only use local contacts.
Thing is that when I upgraded, the client took sometime to re-download all my emails form my two accounts, so it seems that the data from the previous installation was not pulled across for some reason.
Other than the time, this wasn’t too much of a problem, because all the mail was back in the client after a while, except of course the local data, e.g. local contacts, signatures etc.
So is there anyway to bring them in from the backup of the old client folder?
I have:
contact_data.dat
contact_index.dat etc
So, I downloaded an SQLite viewer, and have looked at Contacts & Email & Snippets, and exported them to CSV.
So I am reckoning I can then add these records to the new dat files and we should be all good again!
