Contact interoperability with Fastmail

I use Fastmail which organizes contacts by groups. This interoperates well with contact labels in my android phone (via CardDAV).

eM Client turns this into distribution lists which in turn displays as individual contacts. Is there some way to change how this presents in eM Client? The existing distribution list mechanism in eM Client is an extremely clunky way to manage contacts.

I just received a response from Fastmail (after no response here) and according to them they are following the caldav standard and contact groups interoperate correctly with the Mac.

Is there some way to fix this in eM Client so they show up as categories, labels, or something else that is easier to work with than a distribution list?
